PROJECT | Tower Bridge, London
SECTOR | Public
SERVICES PROVIDED | Decoration & Restoration
During the spring of 2014, BSPS carried out planned and preventative maintenance (PPM) and decoration works to one of London’s most famous and iconic landmarks, Tower Bridge. This Victorian Grade I listed structure is not only one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Capital, but it is also one of the busiest and most vital crossings across the River Thames. As such, numerous logistical restrictions and design specifications were meticulously adhered to by BSPS in order to successfully complete this project.
The works posed many challenges which BSPS overcame through both diligent planning, and communication between the client and Transport for London (TFL). BSPS consulted TFL on every part of the works, as the bridge forms part of a crucial transport artery that runs across London.
Particular challenges occurred when windows on the towers over the road could not be refurbished via the usual scaffold access, because of the nature of the bridge opening and closing. Therefore, these works were carried out via specialist abseil tradesman out of normal working hours.
