The Theatre Royal is London’s third-oldest playhouse and is a cornerstone of the West End. Having entertained audience for over 300 years, the grand Grade 1 listed building sits proudly amongst the theatre elite of London.

The Victorian theatre is such an institution in the city that it needs to look in pristine condition to welcome tourists and culture lovers alike.

The expert team at BSPS were instructed to carry out a full refurbishment of the building in the interior and exterior. The main interior job the team carried out was to paint the hall ceiling to exactly match the existing colour.

For the exterior, the team carried out a complete survey of the roof and replaced any broken slates, repointed brick, conducted lead repairs and replaced the roof light glass.

The theatre remained in operation throughout the works and so the specialist team had to work around scene changes and coordinated the work around shows to minimise disruption.

The building now feels and looks as stunning as it did when it first opened its doors and is ready to welcome thespians and theatre lovers.
